A typical VRLA battery takes between 8 to 12 hours to be fully recharged. In countries like Pakistan where the power condition is very bad, batteries do not have the time to be fully charged after each power outage. Local people need to have another backup power: diesel generator (DG).

The advantage of using diesel generator is that it only needs a few seconds to start and only need gasoil as the main power source to provide reliable backup power for a certain amount of time. However DG has several disvantages: high and volatile price of gasoline, theft, maintenance cost and high impact on the environment.

Not only does it increase your capital expenses (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) by spending thousands of dollars per year and per site in maintenance & gasoline, it will also increase the energy used and thus increase the CO2 emissions.
